Supervisor Katrina Foley’s Flag Day Celebration

We celebrated Flag Day 2022 and the States Army’s 247th birthday with a celebration and Field of Flags in honor of all military personnel, firefighters, police officers, medical personnel, and other first responders.

Our 1st Annual Flag Day was co-hosted by the Exchange Club of Newport Harbor at the historic Old Orange County Courthouse at 211 W Santa Ana Blvd, Santa Ana, CA 92701, The program was followed by a birthday cake and celebratory BBQ.  #OCFlagDay #OCFieldofFlags

Honored guests and distinguished speakers included:

  • Col. Julie A. Balten 63rd Commander, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
  • Boy Scouts of America Troop 440 will be collecting worn, faded, or unserviceable American flags for a proper, dignified retirement
  • MCAS Tustin Young Marines will perform a flag folding ceremony: Sergeant Curtis Sung; Sergeant Diego Johnson; Corporal Gysai Johnson; Private 1st Class Ryan Lotts; Retired Master Sergeant Raymond Williamson will speak on the history of Flag Day Celebration and the importance of the American Flag.
  • Attendance by Girl Scout Troop 3665
  • Sofia Martinez Troop 3326, singing the National Anthem

Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped with this event: Orange County Employees Association, Southwest Regional Carpenters, Costa Mesa Goat Hill Lions Club, Boy Scouts of America OC Council (and Troop 3665), Girl Scouts of America Troops 3152, 3562, 3665, 4184, and 6357, Sunburst Youth Academy Color Guard located at Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, Marine Corps Air Station Tustin Young Marines, and the group that inspired us to host our own display of flags, the Exchange Club of Newport Harbor.
