OC Supervisor Katrina Foley Highlights Resources Following Cook’s Corner Shooting

ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley released a statement following the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s press conference on the tragic shooting at Cook’s Corner.

“My heart goes out to the loved ones of John Leehey, as well as the victims of this senseless act of gun violence. I encourage anyone who was at Cook’s Corner during the mass shooting to contact the Sheriff’s Department Commander at (714) 647-7000 to assist with the investigation.

“I remain grateful to our county mental health professionals who arrived on the scene and provided support to more than 30 witnesses. Those struggling from this tragedy and in need of mental health services can call OC Links at (855) 625-4657 to speak with a mental health professional. This free service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

“Orange County has now seen 9 mass shootings in our backyard, 4 of which are related to intimate partner violence. California’s gun safety laws work to keep weapons out of bad hands. Now, we must enforce these laws and make sure those committing domestic abuses do not own or access guns.

“No one should fear attending community events, going to church, going to school, or going to spaghetti night. I remain committed to working with our law enforcement partners to ensure our community remains a safe place to work, live, and play.”
