ORANGE COUNTY, CA – Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley (2nd District) released the following statement in response to the news that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested Huntington Beach resident Kim Michael Sorgente on suspicion of involvement in the riots that took place at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. Mr Sorgente is also an active anti-mask and anti-vaccine movement organizer in Orange County.
“Mr. Sorgente is a dangerous individual who has been a leader in the anti-mask and anti-vaccine movement since the beginning of the pandemic. Prior to joining the Board of Supervisors, when I was the Mayor of Costa Mesa, he protested at my home when our city issued a mask requirement to protect public health. Since joining the Board in March of this year, he has regularly attended our meetings to spread lies about COVID-19 and vaccines. Moreover, he regularly criticized me for following public safety guidelines and wearing a mask indoors. Mr. Sorgente’s radical behavior escalated over time. He again joined others to protest at my home earlier this year and verbally harassed my family, interrupted my remarks at an event in Huntington Beach to remember the victims of the 9/11 tragedy, which required a police escort to my vehicle to safety leave the event, and most recently attempted to disrupt an event related to the oil spill in Laguna Beach. I encourage all of our elected representatives and community leaders to denounce this type of behavior that is dangerous for all of us. I hope Mr. Sorgente will face consequences for his involvement in the insurrection.”
