Supervisor Foley Distributes 1300 Holiday Care Packages & Grocery Gift Cards to Local Residents Living in Affordable Housing

(Orange County CA) – This week, Supervisor Katrina Foley and her team brightened the holiday season for Orange County families, seniors, and Veterans living in affordable housing, by distributing 1300 care packages to residents in Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, and Newport Beach, with help from our Marshallese youth.

Recipients of the care packages were presented with a reusable bag for grocery shopping, new coats and sweatshirts for children and teens, COVID-19 saliva test kits, masks for children and adults, hand sanitizer, and a gift card to a local grocery store.

Most of the items were donated through nonprofit organizations, local companies (including Mother’s Market & Kitchen and Stussy), the Orange County Health Care Agency, and Supervisor Foley’s 13th Annual Coat Drive; while the grocery store gift cards were paid for by the allocation to Supervisor Foley’s office of American Rescue Plan Funds that benefit Orange County’s most vulnerable residents facing food instability.

Said Supervisor Foley, “It was wonderful to surprise the families, seniors, and Veterans in our community with a truly beneficial care package. I hope that their holiday is a little more festive and that they know that our County cares. Food instability is a big problem and there are more than 400,000 Orange County residents that struggle to get enough to eat, many of whom are seniors. The gift cards help residents and support local grocery stores that the residents frequent due to their proximity.”
