Orange County, California – Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley today announced that the County of Orange is awarded $6 million in funding under Round Two of the State Homekey program to acquire a motel and convert it into a 21-unit, permanent supportive housing project. This project shares a courtyard with The Tahiti, a 60-unit Homekey Round 1 project in the City of Stanton.
“Stanton is a leader in Orange County, taking advantage of Project Homekey to convert crime magnet motels into supportive housing,” said Supervisor Foley. “The collaboration with Stanton Mayor , Dave Shawver, Stanton City Council, along with City and Orange County staff makes this project a reality and the model for adding new Homekey projects in Costa Mesa.”
“I would like to thank Supervisor Foley for bringing our Mayors together and being a fierce advocate for this project,” said Mayor Shawver. “We have worked for years to make these conversions a reality. This is a great deal for the taxpayers and law enforcement that will make our neighborhoods safer and increase our quality of life.”
The City of Stanton partnered with the County of Orange and Jamboree Housing Corporation through the Project Homekey program for the conversion of two motels into permanent supportive housing, which received final approvals in 2021.
To date, Orange County received awards for two of the three projects and applied for Homekey Round Two funding. The third application is still under consideration.
